Jigawa state Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has joined the rest of the world in celebrating this year’s world teachers’ day.

Speaking at the ceremony held at NUT secretariat Dutse, the state chairman of the union, Comrade Abdulkadir Yunusa Jigawa said the day was celebrated to remember the contribution of teachers in nation building.

He commended the state government for the prompt payment of salaries, promotion of teachers, training and retraining of teachers, renovation and construction of new schools and provision of teaching and learning materials.

Abdulkadir Yunusa Jigawa said the state government has established additional 1 thousand 984 schools and recruited about 1 thousand 900 teachers.

He said 10 thousand teachers retired from the service since 2015 and called on the state government to recruit more teachers to fill their positions.
